The reform of the United Nations

Hungary considers the United Nations the main framework of international relations, which constitutes an appropriate tool for managing the complex and controversial phenomenon of globalization, and finding adequate answers for the new security, economic, environmental, humanitarian, and human rights challenges of the 21st century.

Strengthening of management practices, the reform of the Security Council, the revitalization of the role and working methods of the General Assembly, the reform of the environmental system of the United Nations are all issues of primary importance, and Hungary is ready to actively participate in collective efforts in order to moving forward this process. These reforms can contribute to the rationalization of the UN budget which is an interest of Hungary also.

The renewed Security Council shall correspond to the new geopolitical and economic realities of the 21st century. The reform shall take into consideration the efficiency requirement. The composition and the number of members of the Security Council must reflect the changes that have come about in the international economic and political scene, as well as the contributions to the UN budget and peacekeeping missions.
