Sustainable Development and Development Cooperation
Hungary supports the implementation of the Millennium Development Goals, with a special attention to Least Developed Countries and the African continent.
We consider the existing institutional framework and mechanisms of international development cooperation appropriate, but their efficiency needs to be increased.
Health care is indispensable in the realization of the MDGs. Hungary is committed to the global joint efforts to fight HIV/AIDS, malaria and other communicable diseases. Fighting against non-communicable diseases such as diabetes and cancer and their negative health and socioeconomic impacts is equally in the focus of our attention. With its experience, intellectual and technological potential Hungary is ready to take an active part in related international cooperation.
Security of water supplies, proper water management, access to clean water and sanitation, transboundary cooperation in the field of water are core elements of our bilateral and multilateral development cooperation. Hungary is committed to further sharing with its partners its experiences in this field.
We encourage the reinforcement of capacities and the efficiency of global and local coordination in humanitarian responses, in particular in the context of an increased number of disaster situations. The prevention, early warning and disaster risk reduction are a priority for both humanitarian and development fields.
In the light of the 2012 Rio+20 conference we are advocating for the creation of an environmental-friendly (green) economy, corresponding to the notion of sustainable development. Green economy should offer diverse solutions for diverse countries and societies. We attribute a crucial importance to the reform of the institutional framework of sustainable development. We support the international dialogue on global issues such as preservation of biodiversity, food security, increase of food prices, energy security and fuel price and their relation with development and poverty reduction. Encouraging agricultural activities and reinforcing production capacities is also a pre-condition for sustainable economic growth.
We underline the interdependence of climate change, development cooperation, peace and security issues. Climate change shall be treated in a considerably wider context than a merely environmental issue.
