UN Management Reform
Hungary is committed to efficient multilateralism, and this is one of the key elements of its foreign policy. In order to meet challenges of the 21st century the world needs strong, renewed, well-functioning international organizations.
The aim of management reform initiatives is to ensure that United Nations programs and activities are efficient, effective and properly managed. Over the last few years, there have been several important steps to modernise the management of the United Nations: the establishment of an Ethics Office and the Office of Internal Oversight Services, the modernisation of ICT activities and human resources management reform. Hungary is a firm supporter of initiatives to modernise management in the UN and together with our partners we work to enhance and strengthen the functioning of the United Nations Secretariat and other entities within the UN system. Hungary equally promotes reforms in the system of environmental protection within the UN.
Security Council reform
Hungary supports the reform of the UN Security Council and the work of the intergovernmental conference which was set up in 2009. We believe that the composition of the Council shall reflect changes in economic and political realities as well as contributions to the UN’s activities, most importantly peacekeeping. The working methods of the Security Council need to be enhanced as well in order to allow for greater transparency and accessibility for the wider UN membership.
