Functions of the Committee
The Committee has been established in order to assist governmental organisations in fulfilling the obligations of Hungary related to international humanitarian law, with special regard to the Geneva conventions of 1949 and their protocols. The scope of the Committee’s work is wide, covering several different activities. The Committee follows the developments regarding international humanitarian law on both national and international level. It contributes to the promotion of humanitarian law by granting assistance to the organization of events, publications and by urging the integration of IHL into secondary and higher education. The activity of the Committee embodies as well consultation concerning the ratification of international conventions, updating information on the International Criminal Court and the preparation of recommendations for the government. The Committee maintains good relationship with other bodies of similar activities, especially the Hungarian Red Cross and the European Union.
