The London Conference on Afghanistan issued a communiqué – Péter Balázs headed the Hungarian delegation | | | Foreign Minister Péter Balázs attended the international London Conference on Afghanistan held in London on January 28, 2010. States involved in the ISAF mission, countries neighbouring Afghanistan, regional powers and representatives of the main international organisations were present. Participants reviewed the security situation in Afghanistan, issues connected with development and governance as well as the major regional aspects. At the end of the conference, the delegations adopted a joint communiqué confirming their commitment to creating stability in Afghanistan. They pledged support for accelerating the training of Afghan National Army and Police and efforts to advance the country’s national reconciliation process. The delegations reaffirmed the importance of gradually shifting responsibility for security to the Afghan authorities once stability has been created. The communiqué emphasises that participants will follow up progress on the Afghanistan stabilisation process at a conference to be held in Kabul this year. (January 28, 2010) |
