The main task and responsibility of the Hungarian Consulate General in New York is to broaden the already excellent Hungarian- US relations in political, economic, business, cultural, social, people to people and other areas in the 16 federal states which belongs to our consular district and scope of operation.

Hungary has been a member of NATO and a close ally of the United States since 1999, and joined the European union on May 1, 2004. The prevailing principle of the activities of the Hungarian Consulate General in every areas is that “more Europe will not mean less America” for Hungary. This is based on the clear political conviction that Hungary is equally committed to improving the Transatlantic relationship, to be part of a smooth US-European cooperation as well as to full integration into a unifying Europe. The diplomatic, economic, business, financial activities of the Hungarian Consulate General, together with our efforts to strengthen a positive image about Hungary in the media and public opinion are to serve this Hungarian foreign policy objective.

The Hungarian Consulate General gives special attention to provide high quality and prompt response to enquiries by Hungarian citizens, Hungarian Americans and US citizens to all their questions and concerns, and to offer guidance and assistance to them in their official and consular issues. We attach great importance to maintain broad cooperation and dialogue with the Hungarian organizations in all states belonging to our consular district in order to realize joint objectives that promote the contacts between American Hungarians, their organizations and Hungary, widen the awareness of Hungary’s achievements and progress in the United States, thus contributing to the development of Hungarian-US relations.
