On 16 July 2010 the Embassy of Hungary held a Panel Discussion entitled: “The Greek Sovereign Debt and the Euro Crisis, and their influence on the East Central European Region and Hungary. The Future of the Euro Zone”. The event was held as part of a series of meetings organized by the ForumKlub.HU and was attended by over 50 guests.
The ForumKlub.HU is an initiative which embraces Hungarian experts living in the United Kingdom and its aim is to create a regular technical workshop with the active participation of Hungarian specialists residing in the U K.
The members of the Panel were: Laszlo Urban (Director EBRD), Gyorgy Kovacs (UBS, leading macro-economy analyst) and Gergo Hudecz (Credit-Suisse, macro-economy analyst).
The following themes were discussed:
Causes of the euro crisis, including the main causes of the Greek debt. The management of the crisis both by the Athens government and at the European level. Communication at the European level.
The political effects of the crisis, shifts in the balance of power in the euro zone, conflicts and restructuring of interests among the countries involved. The effects of the euro crisis on competition and possible fiscal or monetary solutions.
The future of the euro region.
The effects of the crisis on Hungary and the East Central European Region.
