The international conference on Afghanistan takes place in London on 28 January 2010 at the invitation of British Prime Minister Gordon Brown. The purpose of the conference is to discuss the new strategy on Afghanistan declared by U.S. President Barack Obama on 1 December 2009 and the details relating to the proposed significant increase in military forces.
In addition to the NATO countries, invitations were extended to leaders of other countries interested in the stability of Afghanistan, which brings the total number of those attending to over sixty. The Hungarian delegation is led by Foreign Minister Peter Balazs.
The session at ministerial level will discuss questions relating to security, development and the economy as well as social reintegration, increased aid and other regional aspects. The delegates plan to reach agreement on speeding up the training of Afghan security forces and the time-table for handing over responsibility for security to them. At the end of the conference the delegates are expected to issue a joint communiqué. http://afghanistan.hmg.gov.uk/en/conference/
