On 14 January 2010 Chargé d’ Affaires Klára Breuer presented the Knight’s Cross Order of Merit of the Republic of Hungary to Mr John W Bedingfield at the Embassy. The high honour was awarded by the President of the Republic in recognition of the great service Mr Bedingfield rendered over a period of years in the process of laying the foundations of EU cohesion policy in Hungary. In her appreciation speech Klára Breuer pointed out that he had contributed not only to the realization of concrete projects, but also to the training of a whole generation of young Hungarian specialists. The ceremony assumed a special significance in that it took place at a time when Hungary was celebrating the twentieth anniversary of the regime change, the tenth anniversary of NATO membership and the fifth anniversary of full EU membership. Thanks were due to all those who had helped in this process.
