New Level of Ukrainian-Hungarian strategic partnership

Minister of National Development Tamas Fellegi, who is co-chairman of the Ukrainian-Hungarian Intergovernmental Joint Commission on Economic Cooperation, attended the regular meeting of the Commission held 28-29 November 2011 in Odessa.

During the two days meeting the sides discussed possible ways of deepening cooperation between Ukraine and Hungary in the field of economy, trade, finance, infrastructure and new technologies. The parties agreed that Prime Minister of Ukraine Mykola Azarov would visit Hungarian at the beginning of 2012.

Tamas Fellegi and Nikolay Prysyazhnyuk, Minister of Agriculture and Food of Ukraine, also reached an agreement that will explore opportunities to develop joint projects aimed at expanding power transmission lines between Ukraine and Hungary, improve energy efficiency and utilization of renewable energy. At the plenary meeting the sides exchanged views on measures to be taken to remove obstacles existing in bilateral trade as well as on improving the facility of the logistics of the cluster in the Záhony area and increasing the capacity of border crossings. The meeting ended with signing the protocol of the second meeting of the Ukrainian-Hungarian Intergovernmental Joint Commission on Economic Cooperation.

Tamas Fellegi said that areas in which Hungary can provide real assistance to Ukraine is, in his opinion, modernization and expansion of utility systems in large cities of Ukraine, projects related to the treatment of sewage, storm water cleaning from oil products, development programs for Ukraine's infrastructure, reconstruction of roads and construction of motorways, state homebuilding projects, and agriculture - wine, crops, livestock, meat processing technology, grain and food technology industry. The head of the ministry pointed out that Hungary is ready to participate in the creation of the State Land Cadastre of Ukraine and also - in the presence of an appropriate legal basis - in the financing of national programs and projects of local governments in Ukraine.

On the first day of the meeting, apart from discussions of the working groups, the co-chairmen had a conversation in private. The next day, before the plenary session, the ministers jointly opened the meeting of Hungarian and Ukrainian businessmen. These meetings facilitate the establishment of direct ties and the formation of partnerships between entrepreneurs of both countries.
