Welcome to the homepage of the Embassy of the Republic of Hungary. Thank you for your inquiry of our activity in Syria, the country also called „the cradle of humanity”, that reserves enormous heritage of thousands of years.

Syria and Hungary established their diplomatic relations in 1954. Since that time a wide-ranging relationship has been developed. These ties, built on the field of economy, commerce, agriculture, technology, education and science, became a great value for both sides. Praising the work of the Hungarian lecturers, professors and experts from the Hungarian higher education, are all those thousands of doctors, engineers, researchers who obtained their professional experience and knowledge in Hungary, and who live and do their job in Syria. They can be proud of the good educational, work and familiar relationship between the two countries. The high level activity of Hungarian engineers is shown by a large number of heavy cranes, that still work in Syrian ports at present. We can also be delighted with the internationally recognised Hungarian archaeological achievements in ’al Marqab’, a fortress of the Mediterranean coast, or other sites all around the country, which demonstrate remembrance and relics of Christian crusaders and the Hungarian king, II. Syria reserves many curiosity and cultural, historical treasure for the visiting tourists. Beautiful ancient monuments in Damascus and Aleppo, as well as Palmyra – a part of the UNESCO World Heritage hidden in the eastern desert. Bosra, Doura give a vision of ancient kingdoms and antique empires. Mankind first in history sublimated grain, developed the technics of manual glass production, and methodized the first alphabet of Ugarit, in the region of Syria.

Beside the Christianity, the Islam and historical remembrances, our visit to Syria can help us to understand and to answer actual questions concerning to the future, the Middle-East situation, the climatic changing and water supply of mankind. Our representation, in line with official diplomatic and consular activity, tries to support you by initiative extending of commercial, economic, cultural and educational relations, and supporting you through information and exact answers.
