Economic relations

Hungarian companies with significant business interests in Syria include AGROINVEST, EGI-GEA, GANZ DANUBIUS, TRANSELEKTRO, KEVIÉP and MÁVTI. It is a positive development that Hungarian Airlines MALÉV resumed its direct flights to Damascus in 2003. Since Hungary joined the European Union the 1978 EU-Syria Cooperation Agreement is also in force for Hungary, whereas the EU-Syrian Association Agreement pending signature would increase the scope for cooperation. The export-import trade between Hungary and Syria shows considerable Hungarian surplus. Hungarian export in 2004 was 21.3 million USD while import amounted to 2.8 million USD. Our main export commodities are machinery, installations, prepared products , food and beverage, and energy supplies.
