Cultural and scientific relations

Within the framework of the Working Programme for Cooperation in Culture, Education and Science, at present there are about a hundred Syrian students doing their graduate or postgraduate studies in Hungary whereas annually 3-5 Hungarian students learn Arabic or participate in postgradual Arabic studies programmes. Outstanding among our cultural events was the cultural programme series of 2004 to celebrate simultaneously the Hungarian National Day of 15 March, our entry into the European Union and the 50th anniversary of the establishment of Hungarian-Syrian diplomatic relations. In scientific life, too, there are close contacts between the two countries, especially in the field of agriculture, health care and Arabic studies.
