As a result of Hungary’s accession to the EU in 2004, the Trade Agreement signed between Hungary and Singapore in 1967 was officially terminated by the Hungarian Side in July 2003. The new economic cooperation agreement which complies with EU norms and replaces the cancelled one, will be concluded between the two countries in the near future. During the visit of the Hungarian Minister of Transport to Singapore in 1990, an Air Traffic Agreement was signed between Hungary and Singapore. The first Agreement on Mutual Visa Exemption that allowed Hungarian and Singaporean citizens to stay 14 days in each other’s country without a visa, was concluded in 1994. The Agreement was completed with a Protocol in 2000 providing for 30 days of visa-exempted stay for Hungarian and Singaporean citizens. In 2004, the period was extended to 90 days. The Agreement on the Avoidance of Double Taxation and the Agreement on the Protection and Promotion of Investments were signed during the visit of the Hungarian Prime Minister to Singapore in 1997. The Hungarian National Office of Research and Technology and the Singapore Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR) have concluded a Memorandum of Intent on 3 April 2006 opening the way to enhanced scientific and research exchanges.
