The President of the Republic of Hungary transmitted through the Romanian Minister of Foreign Affairs an invitation for H.E. Traian Basescu, the President of Romania, for making a visit to the Republic of Hungary in 2009. The discussions will emphasize once again the excellent relations that Romania has with Hungary, both in what we could name classical bilateral relations and cooperation within the EU. On the next meetings we are expecting to tackle especially domains in which considerable progresses were accomplished. We concluded that domains such as the development of infrastructure, the cooperation in the field of environment, energy, climate change the Hungarian-Romanian co-operation will bring about new successes. The EU level promotion of domains such as the Community agricultural policy, energetic policy, policies related to ethnical minorities has to be kept in our attention with a view to the future. The accession of European funds represents a possibility for the fast-pace development of both countries. These funds can be used only if the two governments co-operate and if there exists a good co-operation from both sides. There have been taken concrete measures and we would like to accelerate these initiatives. Romania has set 2011 as its target year to gain accession to the Schengen zone while Hungary will hold the presidency of the EU. We are waiting for a close cooperation in this respect as well.
