Pakistani nationals and certain foreigners (holding a Pakistani residence permit) do require a visa to enter the Schengen territory, i.e. Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxemburg, Malta, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland.

Applicants are kindly requested to apply for the Schengen visa at the mission of the country where their longest stay will be or if it is difficult to determine they must apply at the mission of their first point of entry into the Schengen territory.

Please note that the Embassy of Hungary handles short term (C type visa for a stay not longer than 90 days) visa applications on behalf of Estonia and Lithuania. However we are not authorized to receive and issue national/D type visa applications and visas/resident permits. Categories of Visas:

  • Airport transit visa (A): Authorize the bearer to enter the international zone of the airport and to remain there until the time of the departure of the flight to the destination country. Only nationals of the following states are obliged to apply for an airport transit visa: Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Ghana, Iran, Iraq, Nigeria, Pakistan, Somalia and Sri Lanka.

The following categories of persons shall be exempt from the requirement to hold an airport transit visa:

  • Holders of a valid uniform visa, national long-stay visa or residence permit issued by a Member State;
  • Third-country nationals holding a valid visa issued by
    • Bulgaria, Cyprus, Romania, Liechtenstein, Ireland, United Kingdom
    • Canada, Japan, United States of America
    • or when they return from the above mentioned countries after having used the visa;

The visa exemption for holders of valid visas issued by Bulgaria, Cyprus, Romania, Ireland, United Kingdom, Canada, Japan or the United States of America is independent of whether the holder is travelling to the visa issuing country or to another third country.
If the third-country citizen’s visa issued by Bulgaria, Cyprus, Romania, Ireland, United Kingdom, Canada, Japan or the United States of America has expired and the citizen wants to travel back from a country different from the visa issuing country, the citizen is not exempt from the requirements to hold an airport transit visa.

  • Third-country nationals holding the valid residence permits issued by
  • Ireland, United Kingdom
  • Andorra, Canada, Japan, San Marino or the United States of America guaranteeing the holder’s unconditional readmission;
  • for family members of citizens of the Union effective under the 2004/38/EEC irrespectively whether travelling alone, in attendance upon the citizen of the Union or for joining the citizen of the Union;
  • Holders of diplomatic passports;
  • Flight crew members who are nationals of a contracting Party to the Chicago Convention on International Civil Aviation.
  • Short stay visa (C): for stays of 1-90 days. This visa in general grants free mobility within the Schengen territory for visiting, as well as business and tourism purposes with stays of a maximum of 90 days per 180 days of the year.

Attention! In case your flight arrives to Budapest Liszt Ferenc International Airport, Terminal 1 and your transfer flight departs from Terminal 2 (and vice versa) short stay uniform visa (C) is needed. This is the case also when you arrive to Budapest Liszt Ferenc International Airport, Terminal 2A and depart from Terminal 2B (and vice versa).

  • Visas (D-te) to enable foreigners to obtain their Hungarian residence permits: these national visas are issued for visits exceeding 90 days by the Office of Immigration and Nationality in Budapest, Hungary in accordance with the relevant Hungarian legislation.

Documentation to be submitted:

Applicants are kindly requested to submit all documents in original with a set of copies and with an English translation. Please be informed that without the following documents visa applications can not be admitted:

  • Clearly and completely filled in and signed Common Schengen Visa Application form. Please note that a separate application form must be submitted for each and every applicant in family passports as well, parents/legal guardians must sign the application form of minor children,
  • Passport, which contains at least two blank pages, has been issued not earlier than ten years and valid for at least three months after the expected date of departure from the Schengen territory,
  • Two, recent passport size (35 X 40 mm) photographs in colour with white background, taken within the last six months, side photos can not be accepted, no hat, no veil,
  • Visa fee of 60 EUR,
  • Please be informed that without the following supporting documents visa applications can not be processed:
  • Travel insurance valid for the whole stay and for the whole Schengen territory with a medical coverage of 30.000 EUR. The insurance must cover medical attention, emergency hospital treatment and repatriation for medical reasons,
  • Certified parental consent: for minor and unaccompanied children travelling alone a letter stating the approval of travel signed by both parents/legal guardians must be submitted, if such children are travelling with one parent, the other parent must produce the certified consent,
  • Family registration records from NADRA: in case family ties must be proven,
  • Invitation letter (we may require the letter in a from of a public document issued by a notary public in Hungary, or in a from of an official invitation letter issued by the Office of Immigration and Nationality), or acceptance letter from conference organiser/ from educational institute, int he latter two cases we need the proof of registration and payment,
  • The purpose of the entry can be certified with the following documents:
  • In the case of a tourist visit: the certificate of the travel agency; or in the case of anindividual visit: the prepaid reservation of accommodation,
  • In the case of an entry with an educational or other scientific or professional training purpose: the certificate of the receiving institution, the certificate of the envisaged place of accommodation in Hungary,
  • In the case of visiting family, friends, acquaintances: a letter of invitation issued and endorsed by the Office of Immigration and Nationality or the letter of invitation in the form of a public notarial document and a photocopy of the personal identification document/passport of the inviting party in Hungary,
  • In the case of an entry for business purposes: in case there already exists a business partner in Hungary: a letter of invitation from the business partner, proof of the existence of commercial business relations, the certificate of the local chamber of commerce on the existence of business relations, proof of registration of the business with the relevant Pakistani authorities and the certification of the address of the envisaged place of accommodation in Hungary,
  • In the case of an entry with the purpose of medical treatment: the certificate of the receiving health institution, indicating the expected duration of the treatment, including reference to the fact that the expected coverage of the medical treatment is available, also stating the expected costs of the treatment and other certification of the coverage of the medical treatment, as well as the certification of the address of the expected place of accommodation in Hungary. Applicants must also submit a medical certificate that their illness can not be cured in Pakistan,
  • For the purpose of cultural activities: agency contract with the Hungarian cultural service provider, invitation letter issued by the host organization,
  • For the purpose of sport: accreditation proving the participation in the sports event or contract with the Hungarian sport club, or the certificate issued by the delegating sport club / Olympic committee / Ministry of Sport, supporting letter from the Ministry of Sports of the Government of Pakistan,
  • For the purpose of attending a conference: invitation letter issued by the host organization, confirmation on participation issued by the host organization, and/or a certification issued by the delegating organization; receipt on payment of the registration fee.
  • Supporting letter from employer as proof of employment, indicating how long the applicant has been employed by the employer, granted leave of absence and the applicant’s monthly income, stating continuing employment after period of leave,
  • As proof of sufficient financial funds for the duration of stay in the Schengen territory:
    1. Round trip air ticket and itinerary. We accept itinerary with the visa applications however applicants are kindly requested to show us the original air ticket upon the collection of the Schengen visa,
    2. Hotel booking/proof of accomodation: in case the applicant plans to stay in Hungary with friends/relatives we require a document issued by the respective Hungarian land registry indicating that the property is owned by the inviting relative/friend, in this case applicants must submit the copy of the Hungarian ID/residence permit of the inviting person, or
    3. A certificate of a reserved and prepaid journey,
    4. Bank and credit card statements for the last six months,
    5. An original income certificate of the employer, or
    6. Salary slips for the last six months,
    7. For medical treatment: applicants must submit proof of funds to cover the costs of the planned treatment.

Schengen visa processing fees shall be waived for:

  • Children under the age of 6 years,
  • School pupils, students, post graduate students and accompanying teachers who undertake trips for study purposes or educational training,
  • Researchers from third countries travelling for the purpose of carrying out scientific research,
  • Those 25 year old or younger applicants who are employed by non profit organisations and travelling to the Hungary on the invitation of non profit organizations to attend seminars, conferences, sport-, cultural or educational events,
  • Spouses of EU/EEA (European Economic Area) citizens,
  • Holders (third country citizens) of diplomatic passports.

Reduced visa processing fee of 35 EUR is applied for:

  • Children between the age of 6 and 12 years.

Procedural Advices:

  • Please note that there is no guarantee that a visa shall be issued.
  • Visa processing fees are not reimbursed if a visa application is rejected.
  • It is the responsibility of the applicant to take note of the visa application requirements and to apply in time well before making travel arrangements.
  • Please note that this embassy reserves the right to request further documentation if deemed necessary. Fees and requirements are subject to change without prior notice.
  • The possession of a visa is only one of the conditions for entry into the Schengen state. Should the Schengen state’s border authority refuse the entry, no claim for reimbursement of the visa fee or airline ticket or any other financial losses can be submitted. The border police at your Schengen destination may request the presentation of sufficient funds, a letter of invitation, hotel reservation and proof of medical insurance. Failure to present the above mentioned funds/documents may result in the entry being refused.
  • Visa applications must be submitted not earlier than three month prior to the expected date of travel to the Schengen territory and not later than 15 days before the expected arrival to the Schengen territory.
  • After admitting a visa application the period of making a decision is 15 days. This period once can be extended by 15 days and once by another 30 days, however decision making can not take longer than a total of 60 days. Therefore we can not receive visa applications if the applicants apply within 15 days of the expected date of arrival in the Schengen territory.
  • All applicants must apply for a visa in person. For the personal interview applicants must obtain an appointment. After receiving applications by post/any courier company we shall contact the applicants by telephone or e-mail to make an appopintment for an interview.
  • After processing the visa applications we shall send back to the applicants the original documents and passports with visas by a courier company. If there is no visa issued we shall also send a rejection letter to the applicants stating the reason of the refusal.
  • The visa application will be refused, if
  • The applicant:
  • presents a false, counterfeit or forged travel document
  • does not prove the purpose and conditions of the intended stay
  • does not certify, that he has sufficient means of subsistence, both for the duration of the intended stay, and for the return to his country of origin or residence,
  • has exceeded the maximum duration of authorized stay within the same 6 months period in the territory of the Member States
  • is a person for whom an alert has been issued in the Shengen Information System (SIS) for the purpose of refusing entry
  • is considered to be a threat to public policy, internal security or public health, international relations of any of the Member States, in particular where alert has been issued in Member States national databases for the purpose of refusing entry on the same grounds
  • is not in possession of adequate and valid travel medical insurance, where applicable.
  • Doubt arises concerning the validity and the content of the supporting documents, the reliability of the statements made by the applicant.

The reason for refusal is notified by the consul using the established refusal form.

  • In cases when the visa applications have been refused applicants are allowed and welcome to submit a new visa application or to make an appeal against the refusal.
  • Appeals can be made at this Embassy within 8 calendar days after the date of receipt of the decision about the refusal,
  • Appeals (written only in Hungarian or in English language and signed by the applicant) must be submitted personally by the applicant or by a duly authorized person,
  • Consular fee of the appeal must be paid when submitting the appeal,
  • Consular fee of the appeal is 30 EUR. This fee shall be paid by those applicants as well as whom the processing fee has been waived for. There is no possibility to waive the fee of the appeal.
  • Appeals shall be considered by the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Hungary,
  • The processing time of the consideration of the appeal is strictly 15 calendar days. The processing time shall not be shortened under any circumstances,
  • During the consideration of the appeal additional supporting documents might be required and applicants might be invited for a personal interview in case they have not been invited to do so when applying for a Schengen visa.
  • Previous refusal and the stamp in the applicants’ passports has no legal impact on the applicants’ future visa applications.
