Welcome to the web-site of the Embassy of Hungary in Oslo! We hope to provide useful information on these pages to all who take an interest in the relations that exist between Hungary and Norway.

The two countries are allies in NATO. We co-operate in confronting the challenges faced by the Alliance, including peace operations that are often conducted in regions far away from Europe, like Afghanistan. Hungary, as a member of the European Union, maintains a wide range of ties with Norway also in the framework provided by the European Economic Area.

Relations between the two countries are strong also through the traditional channels of bilateral ties. They are balanced and friendly at the political as well as at the social-civilian level. In this respect the Norwegian Financial Mechanism plays an important role by helping the realization of development projects in Hungary in the fields of environment, education, health services, sports, human resources, and the protection of cultural heritage, among others. This financial support mechanism is unique also in the sense that it pays special attention to the strengthening of civil organisations.

The Embassy and its staff do their best to present an authentic view of Hungary and its policies. They endeavour to contribute to the further development of political, economic, cultural, and other ties between the two nations. Special attention is paid to the growing number of Hungarians who live in Norway, including those new arrivals who seek employment. In conformity with the objectives of the Hungarian Government, we wish to provide services and assist individuals and institutions who have an interest in Hungary. This web-site was established with the same purpose.
