On February 2, 2012, János Martonyi, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Hungary, paid an official visit to the Republic of Moldova at the invitation of Vice Prime-Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration of the Republic of Moldova Iurie Leancă. Within the visit Mr. Martonyi met with the Acting President Marian Lupu. The parties noted the positive development of the political dialogue, economic and commercial ties between these two states.
The visit of the Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs coincides with the 20th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations between Hungary and the Republic of Moldova. Hungary was one of the first states recognizing the independence of the Republic of Moldova and opening its diplomatic mission in Chisinau.
