The city of Nyíregyháza and several nearby towns are undertaking an almost HUF 30 billion sewerage expansion, financed in part from the European Union Development Fund, CEO of sewer operator Nyirségvíz István Móricz said on December 11.About HUF 13 billion in investments are already underway on the sewer system in Nyíregyháza. About HUF 16 billion in investments will take place at sewerages in Baktalórántháza, Csenger, Gávavencsellő, Nyírbátor, Nyírtelek and Újfehértó.
TInvestments at printing plants in Hungary have raised the bar for the industry, which is drawing more business from abroad, business daily Világgazdaság reported on December 11.Infopress Group (IPG) Hungary, which was recently bought out by its Hungarian management from Icelandic parent KVOS, completed a HUF 6 billion state-of-the-art printing plant near Budapest in February. The company has started printing several premium Hungarian magazines that were earlier printed abroad, IPG Hungary Sales Director Viktor Lakatos told the paper. In order to boost exports, the company opened offices in Austria and the Netherlands in October, he added.IPG Hungary plans to expand its plant and put new machinery into operation in the near future.
The Hungarian Government and the European Union is developing the Záhony region, situated along the eastern border of the European Union with the help of an investment costing more than a total of HUF 37.5 billion. This complex economic development program aims at stimulating goods traffic between Asia and Europe and creating an attractive economic environment for investors in the entire North Great Plain region."As a result of this complex economic development program implemented with the help of EU funding, Záhony may evolve into a major goods traffic hub between the East and the West. The aim of these developments is to create an industrial logistics zone capable of accommodating major external investments" - said Mr Sándor Kis Kálnoki, Special Commissioner of the Prime Minister for the development of the Záhony region, at the forum organized by ITD Hungary for the more than 50 commercial attachés accredited to embassies in Budapest. Mr Sándor Kis Kálnoki added that one of the biggest rail transfer points along the eastern border of the European Union is located in this region.
Up to December 2009, final decisions on funding were made in the case of more than 330 school renewal projects in seven development regions, under the National School Renewal Program. Work has already begun in the case of 215 projects, out of which 30 projects have already been completed.Funding amounting to approximately HUF 105 billion has been made available up to 2011 within the framework of the New Hungary Development Plan (NHDP) National School Renewal Program, enabling the implementation of 365 projects. This ensures the opportunity to renew numerous outdated, run-down kindergarten and school buildings and set up quality educational institutions. The most significant kindergarten and school renewal program of the past 50 years is being implemented within the framework of NHDP. The kindergartens in Ércs and Ravazd were upgraded and the Primary School in Ércs was extended and renewed with the help of funding amounting to over HUF 330 million.
The Greenergy group inaugurated a HUF 375 million biomass-fuelled co-generation power plant in Baja (S Hungary) on December 9.The heat generated by the power plant will be used to heat almost 2,000 homes, as well as the institutions in the city, partially replacing the gas used so far.The investment, started in July, was co-financed with HUF 50 million in EU funding.The Greenergy group is majority-owned by Global Environment Fund, a Washington-based private-equity investment group.
In October 2009, according to first estimates, exports amounted to HUF 1,535 billion (EUR 5,705 million), while the value of imports reached HUF 1,412 billion (EUR 5,241 million). The Euro value of exports fell by 12 pct and that of imports fell by 21 pct over the equivalent month of the preceding year. In October, the trade balance showed a surplus of HUF 124 billion (EUR 464 million), the balance improved by HUF 150 billion (EUR 608 million) compared to the same month of 2008..The share of the European Union Member States was 81 pct in exports and 69 pct in imports.
The first phase of the Győr Macro-regional waste management major project completed and was handed over on December 7.The National Development Agency received approval from Brussels on November 17 2009 for a major project called "Setting up a municipal solid waste management system at the site managed by the Győr Macro-regional Waste Management Local Government Association." The first phase of the development includes the construction of the dump site and the complex waste treatment plant in Győr-Sashegy.The project approved by Brussels aims at creating an integrated waste management system in the Central and Western Transdanubian region and introducing a selective waste collection system for recyclable material and biologically decomposing waste materials.The major project costing a total of HUF 9.5 billion to be implemented with the help of EU funding amounting to HUF 6.5 billion will improve the quality of life of a total of 260,000 residents in 112 settlements of Győr-Moson-Sopron County, Komárom-Esztergom County and Veszprém County by treating an average volume of municipal solid waste of 130,000 tons per year.
