2009 Hungary-Japan Anniversary Year marking the 140th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and the Dual Monarchy of Austria-Hungary the 50^th anniversary of the resumption of bilateral diplomatic relations between Japan and Hungary.

The motto “Only from the clear spring” is an idea proposed by the renowned Hungarian Composer Bela Bartok – it is also an aspiration living in the souls of many a Hungarians. “Clear spring ”symbolizes not only the need to use authentic sources of music, but also stands for spiritual purity and the endeavour to communicate the essence of our culture. It signals a hope that our purest, finest, innermost selves can be recaptured amidst the turmoil of the modern world.
