The first joint workshop with the participation of Israeli and Hungarian scientists that was based on the renewed Israeli-Hungarian Science Co-operation Agreement took place in Haifa at the Technion, on May 5-6, 2010. The title of the workshop was „Future Internet” where 8 Hungarian and 13 Israeli researchers presented their results about the technological aspects of the future Internet. The presentations covered topics from new algorithms and protocols to safety issues and new application ideas. There was a Hungarian presentation even about the social aspects of the Internet discussing the transformation of social reality as a result of info-communication technologies.

The goal of the Hungarian-Israeli “Future Internet” workshop was not just sharing the results of the researchers from the two countries, but at the same time to form partnerships among the scientists who can apply together for funding in the 7th Frame Program of the European Union and also in the Israeli-Hungarian bilateral R&D Fund, that was recently established. The organizers believe that there is a great potential in the scientific co-operation of the two countries. The Hungarians say that “it was a Hungarian, Janos Neumann, who designed the first electronic computer and it is the Israelis who can transform research results into successful implementation in the shortest time”.
The event was co-sponsored by MOST and the Hungarian National Office for Research and Technology and by the Hungarian Embassy in Tel Aviv. From left: Danny Raz, professor (Technion), Eli Biham, Dean of Computer Science Faculty, (Technion), Gideon Arieli, director (Min. of Science), Oded Shmueli, VP of Research (Technion), Zoltán Szentgyörgyi, Hungarian Ambassador
