Red Sludge Disaster: No Threat to Tourist Destination Areas

Upon request from the Hungarian National Tourist Office, the National Directorate General for Disaster Management of the Ministry of Internal Affairs hereby informs service providers and institutions involved in Hungarian tourism as well as individual tourists that Hungary's key tourist destination areas continue to be completely unaffected by the red sludge disaster.

The water resources and water supply of Hungarian tourist regions that are popular among and are frequently visited by foreign tourists, such as Budapest, the Lake Balaton, the medicinal lake of Héviz in the Balaton region and other cure locations in Western Hungary and elsewhere in the country are not endangered and it is completely safe to stay and consume water in Hungary's tourist destination areas.

Tourist flows into Hungary are entirely unhampered, and all the components of the complete tourist infrastructure, including airports, accommodation establishments, other providers of tourist services and attractions are available for guests as usual.
