The Model European Parliament project held its current session in Cyprus from 29 March to 5 April, 2009. Six Hungarian students and an accompanying teacher also took part at the event. The students from Budapest, Pécs, Szeged and Győr discussed together with students from other EU Member States topical problems of the European Union. In honour of the Hungarian delegation Ambassador Csaba Lovró hosted a reception.
The aim of the MEP project, running since 1994, is to help European youth to better understand and get acquainted with the way the European Parliament works and the problems the EU faces. During a week the participating secondary school students perform the function of the representatives of the European Parliament and deal with problems that affect citizens of the European Union in a way similar to the working method of the European Parliament (working sessions, resolutions adopted by the plenary session).
