At the invitation of the Speaker of the Hungarian Parliament Laszlo Kövér, Speaker of the Sabor Boris Sprem paid an official visit to Budapest on 17-18 June 2012. Boris Sprem was also received by President of Hungary János Áder, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán and he had talks with Foreign Minister János Martonyi.
The President of the Parliament of Croatia praised the outstanding relations between the two countries and thanked for the assistance received by Croatia from Hungary during the past two decades, highlighting the Hungarian support in the recognition of the statehood of Croatia and regarding the NATO and EU accession process.
Boris Sorem confirmed that the intention of maintaining intense relations between the institutions of the Hungarian and Croatian legislature is mutual and the speakers of the parliaments agreed on close further cooperation. The President of the Sabor exchanged opinions with his hosts on the Hungarian-Croatian cultural relations, trade, tourism and energy policy cooperation. In the course of the discussions special attention was given to the tasks arising from Croatia’s accession to the European Union and to new possible areas of cooperation.
