The commemorative ceremony and reception marking the anniversary of the 1956 Revolution took place in the festive hall of the Mimara Museum in Zagreb, with the participation of more than two hundred guests. The commemoration was honoured by the presence of the new Speaker of the Croatian Parliament, Josip Leko, who also delivered a speech on the occasion. The Speaker of the Sabor stressed the outstanding role Hungary plays in the European integration process of Croatia, recalling that Hungary was among the first member states to ratify the Croatian accession and declared that good neighbourly relations between the two countries are a model to be followed. On behalf of the Hungarian side a commemorative speech was delivered by ambassador Gábor Iván.
A wreath-laying ceremony took place at the memorial tablet placed on the wall of Villa Hermann Paulina in Osijek. Members of the two Hungarian umbrella organizations MESZ and HMDK, deputy chairman of the city council of Osijek Ivica Zavrski, deputy head of mission Tamás Bakó and cultural attaché János Dezső on behalf of the Hungarian Embassy in Zagreb laid wreath at the memorial tablet. The commemorative ceremony was followed by a cultural program hosted by the “Népkör” Hungarian Cultural Association. Representatives of the Police of Osijek-Baranja County and the Pécs Division of Baranya Border Guards Directorate were also present at the event.According to the practice established during previous commemorations, a Hungarian folklore evening also took place this weekend in Zagreb. At the event organized by the “Ady Endre” Hungarian Cultural Association and the Minority Council of Hungarians of Zagreb City excellent performances were presented by seven Hungarian dance groups from Croatia. The Hungarian Embassy was represented by deputy head of mission Tamás Bakó and consul Enikő Tuska. A commemorative speech was delivered by cultural attaché János Dezső.
