The closing event of the Hungarian EU Presidency in Croatia was held at 30 June in the Museum of Applied Arts at the same time when Croatia's accession negotiations were concluded by the Intergovernmental Conference in Brusselss. At the reception participated the President of the Republic, the Prime Minister, the Speaker of the Sabor, the President of the Constitutional Court. In their speeches Prime Minister Jadranka Kosor, President of the Sabor Luka Bebic and President of the State Ivo Josipovic praised the outstanding achievements of the Hungarian EU Presidency, especially thanked Prime Minister Viktor Orban and the Hungarian diplomacy for the continuous support and commitment for Croatia in order to complete the accession negotiations.
In his speech Ambassador Gabor Ivan stressed that the recently concluded negotiations have become a prominent historical event for Croatia and for the Hungarian Presidency as well. The Hungarian Presidency contributed to many areas of Europe to become stronger, yet closing the accession negotiations with Croatia is one of the most important missions, after all which has a special importance here in Zagreb. The Ambassador thanked the Croatian government's for it’s performance, congratulated the nation of Croatia for this great achievement. He pointed out that the EU enlargement process should be continued and the Hungarian government is giving full support to the Polish Presidency.
More than 200 guests attended the event. In addition to the state leaders, many members of the Croatian Government (Deputy Prime Minister for Investment, Ministers of Defence, Transport, Regional Development, Economic, Justice and State Secretaries of several Ministries), Vice President of the Sabor, Presidents of Parliamentary Committees, Mayor of Zagreb, heads of departments of ministries, the diplomatic corps, representatives of the public life, the Church, the business life, the leaders of Hungarians in Croatia and the media were present at the gala reception. The speeches were followed by a short concert of folk singer Irén Lovász. The event – which was held in a beautiful building decorated with the symbols of the Hungarian EU Presidency as well as with the posters of the recent Hungarian history – was covered by the particular attention of the Croatian printed and electronic media.
