State-to-state affairs between Hungary and China have a nearly six decade long history. During this period, our bilateral relations - from a range of economic and trade to human cooperation - experienced a dynamic and diverse development. More and more people exploit the economic advantages of both countries; others get closer to the cultural values. Hungary became a preferred tourist destination for the Chinese travelers; they are able to reach Budapest through a direct flight since 2004.

Now member of the enlarged EU, Hungary is an important partner of the PRC in terms of economy, trade and logistics, the EU-membership had positive effects on our relationship. With the trade volume reached 4,3 billion Euro in the 2009 January-October period, Hungary remained one of the most important trade partner of China in the East-Central-European region.   

In order to further deepen and strengthen the bilateral relations, the Hungarian and the Chinese government decided to launch the so-called Hungarian Season in China between the fall of 2007 and June 2008. Beside Beijing Shanghai and Hong Kong, we could show the very best of Hungarian culture and gastronomy as well as to present the opportunities of the Hungarian economy, investment environment and touristic sites to the Chinese audience in 5 other cities.    

2009 marked the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Hungary and the People's Republic of China. This anniversary provided an excellent opportunity for further development in the relations between the two countries.
