January 27, 2010 Vilmos Szabo, State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Hungary arrived at Ottawa where he held consultations with Leonard Edwards, Deputy Minister of the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada as well as with Neil Yeates, Deputy Minister of Citizenship and Immigration Canada. At the end of the one day program, Mr. Szabo met with representatives of the Hungarian communities living in Ottawa and surrounding areas as well as in Montreal and Toronto.

The open and friendly consultations conducted with the Canadian counterparts reflected the positive and fruitful nature of the profound relationship between our allied countries. The two partners agreed to continue their mutual efforts to increase the exchange of information and strengthen their cooperation in order to make the tendency of abusing the Canadian visafree and/or refugee systems decrease.
