The President of the Republic of Hungary awarded Mrs. Mária Mailáth, the chief editor of the weekly Magyar Krónika of Montreal, with the Knight’s Cross Order of Merit for her efforts in keeping the local Hungarian community together and preserving their sense of being Hungarian, their connection to Hungarian culture. The decoration was handed over by the Hungarian Ambassador in Ottawa, Dr. Pál Vastagh. The event was attended by Mrs. Mailáth’s husband, and by Mr. Andor Csukly, President of the Hungarian Committee of Montreal, and his wife.
